President Obama

And, of course, Vice President Biden. These men, together, have broken the traps American society has long placed for African Americans. Barack Obama has shown us all that it should not matter what your skin tone is, that in reality, the only thing that matters is what you say. I cannot help but fear though, that there will be those Americans, those hifalutin Americans, that only voted for Obama because they want it to appear as though they have stepped across the racist barrier. The image of doing the “right” thing. Perhaps I am just being bleak and pessimistic about our American society, but I do live here. And I know that ever since the oh-so-idiotic idea of slavery was born, the concept of racism started. Though the US has taken “giant leaps” toward closing the gap, we are still nowhere near the end of it. The end in which there is no line. There is no difference between a black man and a white man.

The fact that appearance matters so much in the American society is startling. How we have to look, as a country, well put together, not racist, not judgmental. A long list of things we have to seem. And that’s what makes us so despised. We seem like everything we aren’t. We aren’t not racist. We aren’t not judgmental. We aren’t open-minded. We like to think we are, but we aren’t. Sadly enough. And it’s a depressing thought.

But, I trust our government in the hands of Obama. I do believe he is the sort of change we need. A change from the way Bush blunders along, trying not to allude to his incompetency. A change from this seemingly endless seven year war. A change from this mess.

Congratulations to your victory, and may your next four years be full of success and safety!
